About me

In March 2010 myself and my partner at the time came to New Zealand from the UK and decided to settle in Christchurch soon after.  Having spent all our savings whilst first traveling around this beautiful country, we needed to set up house for pretty much next to nothing; fortunately we soon discovered that Christchurch was blessed with a multitude of second hand shops, all of which yield a rambling assortment of furniture, kitchen items, soft furnishings etc, which we pounced upon eagerly.

Having purchased furniture for the whole house for not much more than a few hundred dollars, we have gradually came to know where the best places were for almost anything we might need, purely through a process of trial and error.  How nice it would be if there was a website where all the secondhand shops in the city could be listed in one place, it would have saved so much driving about and so much searching for what we needed.

So here it is.  It probably doesn't have every secondhand shop listed (yet - if you find one I've missed, please drop me a line) but it does contain a vast assortment of such places.  I hope the site is of use to you, whether you are here for a long time and need to set up house cheaply just like we did, you're a student recently moved into a new flat with some mates and want to save your money for beer/gigs/art supplies, or you're on a short tourist visit and really fancy grabbing a cheap book to read on the bus or an extra jumper for under $5 because you left your really warm one at the last backpackers.

Good luck and happy shopping!
