From the Universe is a simple website listing second hand shops in Christchurch (New Zealand) and was put together by me for fun and for free during my spare time. It's not a very sophisticated or gadget-ridden site and it's definitely not perfect, but it should be a good starting point for anyone who wishes to buy pre-loved items whilst staying in, living near or travelling through the Christchurch area. Site scope
The types of stores I have included on this site are limited to those that might address the needs and wants of folk in the Christchurch area who are living, working or just staying for a short time and have a need or wish to do so on a budget. Most things you want/need will be covered within the opportunity shops and general second hand categories. I have also included shops that sell vintage and retro items and those that sell books and music, as well as other types of media, since these are generally appealing to both funky and thrifty second hand buyers. Antique shops are not included (unless they also have vintage/retro-style items for sale) since they are likely to be outside the price range of those whom this website is targeted at. Finally, I have also included an events and auctions section, which explains and lists both regular and one-off events.
The geographical scope of this site focuses on Christchurch City and is bound by (in an anticlockwise direction) Southshore, North New Brighton, Belfast, Harewood, Avonhead, Hornby, Halswell, Cashmere, Hillsborough, Heathcote, Ferrymead, Mount Pleasant, Sumner and Lyttelton. Shops in Kaiapoi, Rangiora and Oxford are also listed.

It is almost certain that not every secondhand shop in Christchurch has been included and things change all the time, especially in these post-quake times, so the information given here may not always be 100% accurate.
