Barrington Community House: Whareora House of Life

Whareora House of Life is a joint project between St Marks Methodist Church and St James Presbyterian Church, aiming to provide personal and community support in a welcoming atmosphere through a range of activities such as craft groups, community lunches, gardening and writing groups etc.  The Community House has a small second hand clothing shop with regular new stock.

Budget Boutique, Oxford

Budget Boutique is run by the Oxford Union Church and all proceeds from shop sales go back into the community to help families in need.  The shop sells a selection of clothing (women's, men & children), some books, bric-a-brac and household items.

Cat's Protection League

The Cat's Protection League is a registered charity dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming stray and abandoned cats and kittens. It also offers help to people who cannot afford to spey or neuter their cats.  The charity is funded through donations and via sales made in their opportunity shop.  You can find out more about them on the Cat's Protection League website.

The shop has a good range of clothing and household items, as well as a reasonably large book collection.  The adjacent shed/garage opens two days a week (see opening times below) from which larger items & electrical goods are sold.

Open: 10am - 4pm Monday to Friday, with the larger shed opening on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10am to 1pm.

Christchurch North Methodist Op Shop

Donations are made to a variety of different places when items are sold in this shop.  In 2011/12 this included Parkinsons and MS Society, Red Cross Fiji Flood Relief and Riding for the Disabled.

The shop sells a selection of clothing for men, women and children, plus some bedding, bric-a-brac, books, jigsaws etc.

Dog Watch

Dogwatch is a self-funded registered charity which runs a sanctuary for abandoned pound dogs until they can be re-homed.  The organisation self-funds itself by money raised through grants, donations and legacies.  They also raise money by selling donated goods at their 'Variety Shop' in New Brighton.  you can read more about them on the Dog Watch website or the Dog Watch Facebook page.

The shop sells a selection of books, clothing, bed linen, household goods and bric-a-brac.
